
The Office of Legislative Drafting and Publishing is responsible for drafting legislative instruments and for giving advice about drafting and interpreting legislative instruments across Government. It ensures that the instruments are legally effective and of high quality, and drafted in a plain English style.
The Office is also responsible for providing the Government, Government agencies and the public with convenient, timely and reliable access to statute law. The Office manages the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments, registers instruments which are required to be registered under the Legislative Instruments Act 2003 and delivers copies to Parliament for tabling. It compiles Commonwealth legislation and publishes it electronically on the ComLaw website; arranges for Commonwealth legislation to be printed and made available for sale; and publishes the Government Notices Gazette.
