Border Management and Crime Prevention

The Border Management and Crime Prevention Branch provides advice on a range of crime prevention and criminal justice issues, including: border security; trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants; anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing; illicit drugs; fraud against the Commonwealth; foreign bribery; and firearms policy and regulation. It is also responsible for the administration of justice for federal prisoners.

The Branch administers the:

  • The Crimes Act 1914 (Part 1B)
  • Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006
  • The Secure Schools, Safer Suburbs and National Community Crime Prevention Programs, and projects funded under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002
  • Commonwealth funding for CrimeStoppers Australia.
