Applications for National Visits Media Cards for 2010 and 2011 are now open. Please download and complete the application form (found at the top right corner of this web page). Applications should be made as soon as possible to allow processing to occur by early January 2010.
A National Visits Media Card (NVMC) identifies the holder as a person with a legitimate media interest in the visits of foreign dignitaries. The card does not automatically entitle the holder to any special consideration or close proximity to visiting dignitaries or associated events. The NVMC has been introduced to cater for visits of foreign dignitaries where a higher level of security is required.
Applicants for the NVMC must undergo identity checking, be certified by a registered media organisation as being a person assigned to report on visits to Australia by foreign dignitaries and pay an administrative fee of $30 for the card. The NVMC is valid for a maximum of two years, provided employment is still current as per original application.
The NVMC is administered by the Attorney-General's Department. The Department collects the information on the application form in order to administer the NVMC scheme that identifies the holder as a person with a legitimate media interest in the visits of foreign dignitaries. Completed application forms for an NVMC are lodged at authorised Australia Post outlets. Australia Post gives the information in the application form to the Department. Information contained in this application will be kept in the strictest confidence and handled in accordance with the Privacy Act, 1988. If you have any queries about the content or application process, please contact (02) 6141 3775 or email nvmc@ag.gov.au.
To apply for an NVMC, applicants must use the application form found on this web page. An explanation of what the applicant must do to obtain an NVMC is included on the application form.
Completed applications can be lodged at authorised Australia Post KeyPost outlets. A list of these outlets can be found at www.auspost.com.au/keypost.
Applicants will need to have spare photocopies of their evidence-of-identity documents when they lodge their application. Faxed certifications will be accepted (Part B).
