Expensive case funding is administered by the Indigenous and Community Legal Services Branch of the Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department. Expensive case funding is a program component of the Branch’s Indigenous Legal Aid and Policy Reform Program.
The Department may allocate funding to enable Providers of Legal Aid Services for Indigenous Australians to supply services to clients whose cases require funding of an amount that would severely impact upon the Providers’ ability to fund their daily operations if it were pursued.
These Expensive Indigenous Cases Guidelines set out the criteria for obtaining funding, the procedure for applying for funding and the conditions upon which funding is granted.
